Internet is your best friend and worst foe!
In today's world, internet has opened so many doors and avenues that it is like a miracle. But it has also brought with it deep minefields of viruses, malware ,plain data theft as well as fly by night spurious courses and institutes .
The first thing you have to remember that just because it is on Internet it is NOT Gospel truth!
Luckily there are software and data available for you to find out about any site.
The first thing you should have is a site adviser . One is WOT - Web of trust., another is McAfee SiteAdvisor, These are apps that work on all the browsers and on mobiles too. Once installed they gives you visual clues about a site. Green is safe, and Red is absolute no no. So that is your first line of defense.
You can download WOT from here , and McAfee SiteAdvisor from here .

There are literally million of sites with courses - free or otherwise, all claiming to be part of some known University. It is for us to determine whether a site is right or a fraudulent one.
If it is totally free course, it may be Ok, But I would strongly advise you to have a separate email address for all such correspondence. As these sites have a habit of mailing you more info and there is a strong likelihood that your contact list might get compromised.
I have included site addresses to verify the accreditation of any institute.
If they do not have a valid physical address, and only generic emails , Beware!
When you decide on a course, check the time line, what help they will be giving you on and off line, Read all the fine print what and if they have a refund policy if you cannot finish the course.
Also check if they assist in getting a job. It is better to read any reviews on the site . If it is a reputed company, the names of directors and other office holders will be displayed.
Check the educational sites for any review.
Any site that asks your email address / phone number before giving out any info may be fake. Though many sites like to have your contact to build their own database of potential customers.

My strong advise to you is, to take a course and search on the net about the current scene and follow up from there. Please research carefully before parting with your money as most sites have no refund policy.
As a general guidance, if a site does not show a proper address, course content/ timeline, and has only a generic email, it is better to stay away from. Luckily most of the courses are now done by collages affiliated by recognized Universities. But beware too of fake universities.
You can check the accredition of most valid sites on the links I have provided.
